It may be a great place to socialize, but it's not the place for an agency to have a "site". It just looks amateur. Read through the message below that someone sent me, along with the e-mail sent to her from the company.

I wanted to inform you of one of the biggest scams I've ever seen in craigslist. It's One Model Essence Limited . They're the ones who post the fake breakdowns everyday (or try to until they get flagged since a lot of people get the real breakdowns and recognize that theirs aren't real). He doesn't just post fake breakdowns in LA but upon further research, I found he posts these fake breakdowns in every talent section of every city across the country. These are shows that are filmed in LA, yet he's posting the fake breakdown in Iowa or Dallas or Detroit in pathetic attempts to get people to give him money for an agency that doesn't actually exist.
What he does is get you to "pay" for your "mandatory background check" No actual agency does this, and even if they did, any legit company doesn't charge you to do a background check, it's their responsibility. If a law firm or other corporate entity attempted to charge its applicants for background checks they'd be laughed out of business in a week.
They also claim to take 20% of your "commission fee" for non-union talent which is wrong (although I'm sure they never actually get you any work). they are also based out of New Zealand which has nothing to do with sending people in LA on auditions. The fact they post fake breakdowns (their characters often seem to reappear in other shows) is evident enough at what a scam this joker is pulling, but I've included his email he sent me just so you can see all the details. I hope your website is viewed nationally and not just in LA because it's a great service:
******

E-mail from One Model Essence Limited:

Hello, I am Ms. J a Division Supervisor for One Model Essence Limited and I’d like to give you the opportunity to be represented by our agency. We are looking for Models in all areas, for possible representation. We are a non-exclusive talent agency meaning you can work for us and other agencies too. You are not bound by a contract. We can assist you with many needs. We have a comprehensive list of well-paid castings that may interest you.

One Model Essence Limited has been in existence for three (3) years strong. We are a full-service international talent agency that submits models and actors to our clients for auditions and castings. To become registered with OMEL, there is a mandatory background check that is conducted on all of our new talent. Unfortunately, we cannot represent anyone who has a criminal record. Once you are in our database, you will receive castings through your email. The castings that have submission information, you submit yourself to them, but only if you fit the description. These castings normally pay under $2,000.00, and if you are selected for one of these assignments, you keep that money. The other castings are from our major clients, normally paying over $2,000. We will automatically submit you to these castings, and if you are selected for one of these castings, we will receive a 20% commission fee if you are non-union talent, per assignment. If you are union talent, (SAG/AFTRA) the agency fee is 15% per assignment. *Models responding to our overseas clients, you are responsible forgetting your own passport, if selected.

If you are interested, please call me directly to register and get additional information. DO NOT SEND AN E-MAIL. Our agency receives an overwhelming response from models and actors such as yourself, so please allow at least 3 business days for a call back.

Ms J (757) 271-8705 (My direct Line)
msj@onemodelessencelimited.com

PLEASE REVIEW ALL LINKS BELOW:
http://www.mylocalsound.com/mlsxx/newzealandstaff
http://www.myspace.com/onemodelessencelimited
http://www.myspace.com/intm (our new company...coming soon to the states)
http://www.wnso.com/ (in conjunction)
http://mamimagazine.com/sample.pdf
http://www.extrasoncall.com (in conjunction) read front page of the site we hired a lot of people for movies, commercials, etc

At this time, we are not able to work with models under any type of exclusive contract.

One Model Essence Limited New Zealand
59 C Pitt St
Whanganui, New Zealand 5001
011 06 348 4487
Lic# 1454508
Newzealandstaff@onemodelessencelimited.com

One Model Essence Limited-US IN Branch
Ms J (Division Supervisor)
757-271-8705
msj@onemodelessencelimited.com

One Model Essence Limited-US IN Branch
Ms Dynasty (Talent Supervisor)
281-597-8771
msdynasty@onemodelessencelimited.com

One Model Essence Limited- US IN Branch
Tamie Tatum (Talent Supervisor)
765-278-6780
tamie@onemodelessencelimited.com

One Model Essence Limited- US CA Branch
Layla Latif (Talent Supervisor)
310-691-2345
laylak@onemodelessencelimited.com

One Model Essence Limited-US Main Office in Conjunction with Platinum Faces Talent and Model Agency
3440 E. Their big scam is to try to get you to buy one of 5,000 spots on their CD that they send out to casting directors, and it's only $229! The only thing is that there are no spots and they're only after your money. This company can be found on the Easy Background Check link and I suggest everyone read up on them. Read below for one person's experience with them.

Hollywood Agency, LLC
20501 Ventura Blvd
Woodland Hills, CA 91364
Phone: 818-917-5271
www.hollywoodauditions.com

I had been receiving e-mails from them for months, but never responded. One day I ended up getting a phone call from one of their associates, David Kuzia. I sat there listening to what they had to offer, but anytime I tried to ask a question he just talked over me. I could tell it was like he was just reading straight from a card. He went on and on about what they offer, how great it is, how they represent so many famous people, etc. When he finally said how much it was, I told him I wasn't interested. That's when he became combative, saying that I wasn't serious and that I need to change my attitude if I ever expect for my career to go anywhere. I said that I don't need to buy into a scam to further my career and he started screaming into the phone about all of the famous people that they represent, but when I asked who these people were, I didn't recognize the names of any of them. He just became so beligerant that I ended up hanging up on him. Even after all of that, I still receive e-mails from them! And everytime I receive one I tell them to go to hell. I've read some real horror stories of people trying to get their money back from them...please just don't give them a penny!

"Lamont" with the posting "Foot Models Wanted"

I've seen these and have always wondered. I was right; just a creepy guy trying to get off. Here's one model's story.

There's a guy on Craigslist looking for "foot-models". When I responded to his ad, an older-sounding man answered the phone. I basically just wanted to gather some info on his work, but he wanted to meet me immediately. Weird to me! When I asked him to send me some examples of his artwork/photography, he gave me the name of a website, which was a piece of blank crap with 2-3 old pictures on it. Far from professional or artistic. I told him I changed my mind and that I wasn't gonna do it. After I told him that, he kept calling me every day for weeks leaving me messages asking me if we could meet up! So it's pretty obvious that his ad is just a way to get girls' attention and to be able to talk to them or possibly meet up with them! SLEAZE BAG!!! SCAM!!!!

Bill Starkov, Extras & Models, and Planet Extras

I see these guys post almost everyday about some "casting". Heres' their info. along with some of their aliases. They have an F with the BBB, so watch out for them! Below is also a story from someone who went in to meet with them.
Extras, Actors & Models
Extras and Models
ExtrasandModels.com
15720 Ventura Blvd.
Suite 608
Encino, CA 91436
(818) 995-3342
fax: (818) 379-7069
http://www.extrasandmodels.com/

PERSON 1
I also went to meet with the people from "Extras, Actors and Models", thinking I was auditioning for a GIG and not to sign up with their sleazy attempt of an "agency".

First off, there was no receptionist. If you are such a "well-known agency", you'd think that someone would get hired to answer/make phone-calls and sign in possible future clients. Secondly the pictures hanging on the wall are a) random and b) not very professional-looking. They definitely wouldn't wanna make me become "one of them", but that wasn't my goal in the first place. I was there to audition for a "JOB".

Anyways....Me and a few other people waited around for quite some time until that Asian woman, who was previously referred to by the other person who emailed you, got out of another "meeting". The girl who was ahead of me walked into the office and came out a minute later already. When I walked into the office next, the Asian woman said that the previous girl wasn't open-minded enough and that she just wanted to be a runway model, which she didnt have the looks for. Looking back at it, the girl must have realized pretty quickly what was going on and didn't feel like paying to become another face in her wanna-be-agency archive. Good for her!!

On to my experience in there: The Asian lady and I small-talked a bit, but it was obvious that she didn't really tell me any useful information on the "gig". Probably because THERE WAS NO GIG, which I was soon to come find out. She mentioned -with pride!- that "P.Diddy" had walked in there a couple of months ago. Besides the fact that P.Diddy must have walked in in order to use the restroom or something (if he ever walked in at all) I was like "SOOOOO"?!?!?!!?

Anyways, I showed that woman my pictures. She was obviously very delighted, and without even letting me know what this is all about, she wanted to sign me up for a "membership" and to pay a fee right away. I was a little puzzled to say the least. I explained to her that I was already signed with agencies and that I wasn't looking for representation. I came to audition for a gig. She did not waste any time to show me the door saying I'd have "24 hours to change my mind" and to sign with them. Hahaha...It's been months and I haven't changed my mind and I never will. People, please don't bother going there looking for a gig or representation. You will be wasting your time and your energy!!!

PERSON 2
Sorry, I can't recall what their names are. But the recptonist is a mid 20s black female, then the first girl that interviews you is an older looking asian female mid 30s and then they have a second person interview you who is a white male in mid 30s. But the asian women and white male both are the ones that try and convince you about how you are getting a deal which reguraly costs 454 a year for just 100. When I told them "no thanks", they offered to reduce the fee to 50. They just try to take your money as little to as much as they can.

Starpower Entertainment

I saw this on craigslist and thought I should post it. The info. I found on them on www.bbb.com/ has them at a CC rating, and they are currently under review. I urge anyone who has a legitimate complaint with this or any company to file it with www.bbb.com/ . Starpower's address is:
2828 Cochran st. He will ask you to come in with a bathing suit under your clothes so he will check out your body. No legit agency does this, the guy is a perv hoping to see some TA and will accuse you of being underage if you don't have DD cups. He wouldn't know a real model if it slapped him over the head.
Also, he will tell you all your photos suck and tell you to buy a 500 dollar package from his photographer. When you say you want to find your own photographer he will laugh at you and say fine but that HE has to approve him first.
Aside from that he has a huge attitude problem and thinks that his rudeness is going to make you believe he is legit
don't waste your time. They post on craigslist all the time with posts that look like they are a casting call. Once they have your email and phone number they will spam you. His assistant will call you telling you she found a job for you. I was called a couple of times before I came in, TURNS OUT THEY DID NOT EVEN KNOW HOW I LOOKED LIKE. So how could they possibly say I was "perfect" for this commercial? It's all bs. If you don't know the people you're working with and they want you to make out of pocket expenses, I'd be a little wary, particularly if you apply for something that's a specialty (makeup artist), and they want you to do something that has nothing to do with it. If anything, this story should show you certain warning signs to look at. If anyone has had dealings with "MC" and knows who this guy is, I'd be glad to hear from you.

Unfortunately I do not have much information on the person. But I do know the name he goes by and what he looks like. He's a producer. He isn't difficult to recognize. His name is MC and he is a black male. He has a very heavy accent. Here is my story. I am a makup artist and was applying on craigslist for makeup jobs. I found this one makeup job,it was a low budget movie and it was a three day shoot. Location was in the Hollywood area. I decided to reply to the makeup job.
About a week went by,and I got no response. Another week went by and I recieved a phone call. MC said that he needed a makeup artist asap.He also roughly explained the movie. He said the director was a English lady and is coming from England for three days. He asked me if I can come to the production meeting the next day. I said sure...(but at the same time,at the back of my head I was wonderiing why he took so long to respond )I had my suspicions.
I went the next day,I spent the last three dollars I had on the bus(I was real broke that week) and I went in the building. When I went in I noticed there weren't alot of people in the place. Just maybe about 4 people. Anyway I went in the room,I introduced myself well and everything was ok. MC and the English director started talking about what kind of movie it is etc. Then they started talking about what they needed from me. They started naming costumes they needed and props etc. They wanted me (a makeup artist) to go out that same day and buy the items out of my own pocket! I then said I don't have money on me at this time. Then they said I can just go and find the props and costumes for them and give him a call. Then they will pay out of there own credit card for the custumes etc. I then noticed how they didn't bring up the topic about the makeup. So I of course brought it up. When I brought the makeup topic up,MC automatically said...oh we will talk about that another time.....He also said that he had a makeup artist. I am thinking that they needed two makeup artists and some extra help. I decided to be nice so I agreed to help.
After the meeting was over..I thought about everything and I then realized that they didn't want me there as a makeup artist. They wanted me there as a wardobe/prop master. If they had wanted me there to be a makeup artist. They would have talked about the makeup they are in need of at the meeting. That's what those meetings are for. They are for the crew to show up and talk about what they are going to do. It was one of the most offensive experiences I have encountered. They obviously couldn't get a wardobe person and wanted someone random to do it. I am a makeup artist...not a wardobe person! So..I left and never contacted them again.

Worldwide

I just saw this on craigslist and thought I should post it here. Here's what this model sent me:

I couldn't believe it when these jokers contacted me today. It's been at least six months since I had to track them down to pick up my comp cards, which looked like an amateur printed them up. They're a complete joke and a scam. They also don't have a license, so they're illegal. Anyway, here's what they sent me. It's such a load of BS, I can't believe they have the nerve to send it out:

E-Mail from Red Alert

Dear valued talent,

This message is to notify you that our booking office has now switched to Ascend Casting Submission Services. For those of you who are registered with LA Casting, you can still use their services if you would like. All of you who wish to continue being represented by Red Alert Management need to make an appointment with Dalila our head booker to switch your information over to Ascend Casting. She will upload all of your pictures and information for you. The cost is the same as LA Casting (roughly $60) depending on the time 4 months, 6 months, 1year etc. This is imperative for you to be sent out on castings. If you no longer wish to be represented by Red Alert, please notify our office and we will remove you from the system.

Thank You

Red Alert Booking Department

Bill Berlin

Check this guy out, and watch out for him. He constantly posts on craigslist for body painting, modeling, and calendar work. Read below for the model's experience with him. I see why your father fucking molested you and still to this day masturbates thinking about fucking your worthless piece of shitass. By the way, there's a new industry website that puts bitches, cunts, and whore who flake on auditions and gigs...so you will be on it.fucking cunt.*

obviously someone who would send this type of email is not someone anyone should work with

Anyone who writes something like that as a response to a cancellation is obviously not in his right mind and could be dangerous. I don't have the building number, but I do know that they're on Flower Street in downtown LA. It's run by Vanessa and Allison, who don't give last names. They don't have a license, they try to push people into buying photos, among other things. A model just contacted me about her experience with them, which you can read below.

I went to Red Alert's offices after being called in from a Neutrogena ad that I had applied to. Even though I had an appointment, I still ended up waiting about 45 minutes after what I was scheduled for. I took my book for them to look at, which they seemed pleased with, and we discussed the specifics of the ad. They wanted to set me up with comp cards, which I thought was fine, since I didn't have any. So for my second meeting I came in with a disk of pictures for them to choose from, and once again had to wait about 45 min. past when I was scheduled. We set up what I wanted for the cards, I put in payment and everything was fine.

Then a few weeks went by, and nothing. Then it turned into a month and a half and I still couldn't get any response. Were my cards in or not? Where were they? Finally I tracked them down like two months later. Vanessa said "oh yeah, your cards are in. I thought somebody had called you." Then it was a big run around about when I could come in to pick them up because she was going to be out auditioning. She wasn't going to be auditioning people for jobs, she was going out on her own personal business to audition for projects. So I finally set it up for my boyfriend to come and get them and our dealing together were over and she was all of a sudden anxious to talk to me, wanting me to keep with their "agency". When I finally saw my cards, I was stunned. The picture quality was horrible and I'm frankly embarassed to use them. It's only a last resort when I'm out of other pictures, that I actually send these.

These girls both put on a nice little act of seeming like they know what's going on, but they are nothing but cons and should be ashamed of themselves.

Vincent Lee in San Diego

This guy put up his weekly posting like clockwork. His address is 3133 Luna Ave. San Diego, CA 92117 and his phone number is 858-581-1303. The post now says "FREELANCERS ONLY". Gee Vincent, are too many people finding out about you? Do they actually have the nerve to have their representation contact you? This guy is strictly looking for people he can sucker and he wants as few restrictions as possible. His big opperation is to try to sell his "photography" to people. Read below for one girl's story.

This guy tried getting me roped into his little con. I knew that it was a con just from seeing him post every weekend, seeing he wouldn't post an e-mail address, and he had no place where you could view his work online. It seems that where he allegedly has his pictures is perpetually "under construction". At least that's his excuse. My boyfriend saw one of his posts and said that I should submit, even though I kept saying it was a con. So I told him "if you think it's so great, why don't you submit?!"

Long story short, my boyfriend ended up calling him saying he was my manager, wanting to discuss the possible job. I stood there listening and through the whole conversation he kept going on and on about how he was involved with this great film project, $50 million budget, and he may be able to get me in on it, but he has to talk to me, he won't talk to a manager. He also went on to say that my pictures don't show "the real me", but he needs me to send more. It doesn't matter if I just photocopy the pictures and send them, he just needs me to send more. Okay, what about how he said he wanted professional photos? Then he goes on to say that he can take fantastic photos for me that will get me submitted for this project for only $1,000. Wow! Sign me up! Needless to say, my boyfriend saw the light and that was the end of that.

Unfortunately, I read on craigslist every week how someone actually ended up going to his "pee stained apartment" in the hopes of getting great photos, only to see that the guy is a liar and a con. Please, avoid this man at all costs and don't send him a thing! Hopefully if people stop sending him pictures, he'll stop posting to try and get them.

Mitzi Valenzuela of "Mitzi & Co."

Here we are with yet another story. This time from a makeup artist. She makes a good point in her e-mail about getting everything outlined in an e-mail, at the very least. Always get the terms in some form of writing, even if it's just an agreement through e-mail. Don't make any deal over the phone.

Mitzi Valenzuela of "Mitzi&Co."Because of her, I now incentivize my tear sheets and make clients outline all terms of a gig in a simple email - not over the phone. I am a makeup artist. Mitzi called me regarding hiring me for a shoot wherein she would be sending in the images for consideration. She told me that she would be paying me $75 + tear sheets. At the end of the gig, I am waiting for my money and finally had to ask for it. She then tells me that I had misunderstood...that *IF* the images ran, she would be paid and thus I would be paid.A couple of months went by.

I emailed her on an unrelated item and she tells me that the images were published and that she's got a copy of the magazine for me. (So, if I hadn't emailed her WHEN was she planning on telling me?)I ask about my $75 and "Oh, they never pay." was Mitzi's reply. She had my copies of the tear sheets - calculatedly planned, I soon realized. So, I couldn't be anything other than nice with her instead of flatly asking "...so, you didn't tell me that I would be paid $75 when you called to hire me, and you didn't tell me after the gig that I would be paid $75 *IF* the images ran??"

Is it possible I misunderstood TWICE?! Hardly. And that's why I now incentivize my tearsheets and operate under a refund policy AND TELL ANY/ALL ARTISTS TO DO THE SAME; pay me what you would be paying me if there were no tearsheets involved, and if tearsheets materialize, I will offer a refund AFTER I have secured them.

Scouting Entertainment Group (SEG) aka HollywoodCastings.com

You can actually check out this place on the link to easybackgroundcheck.com on the right. I've seen this guy's posts, people's responses to him, and his vulgar responses in return on craigslist. He goes by the name John Zachariah, Johnny Z, or JZ, his phone number is 310-467-8996. He uses the websites SuperModelsUSA.com and ModelAgencyUSA.com . On his sites before, he was using photos that were also posted on laheadshots.com, and he had no affiliation with them. Now, his sites have a main page and nothing else. The following is an e-mail of a model's experience with him.

The name he had in his e-mail when he was contacting me was John Zachariah. He is constantly on craigslist with different posts to meet with a woman at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Santa Monica for a photo shoot, or he's looking for a jogging partner, or a dance partner, or he needs to be seen with a woman there at a certain time because someone is saying he's gay, or whatever the excuse of the day is.

I had contacted him on craigslist about a year and a half ago about a photo shoot, we e-mailed back and forth, and I eventually decided not to work with him because 1. his photos weren't that great and 2. he kept e-mailing me constantly. Once I declined work with him I thought that was it, but then he started to send me some really crazy things. A couple of weeks after I declined he started sending me messages asking me not to commit suicide on Valentine's Day, and telling me that I need to pray for forgiveness for my sinful ways, among other things. I can't even begin to describe some of the other things he wrote to me, it was so obscene. He did this for several weeks.

I posted on craigslist warning people about him and a girl wrote to me saying that she went to meet him and he kept trying to get her into his car. Please post about this guy on your blog, I really think people need to stay away from this guy.

Just had someone else send me a little more info. on him.

He uses several names and websites... beware:
http://johnz.com
http://www.modelagencyusa.com
http://www.supermodelsusa.com/LAJOLLA/, scroll down to see the web designer: http://skateboardlessons.com/School_of_Skateboarding/about.htm
and you wonder if this is him...
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1886250/

Welcome!

This is for all of the artists in LA who have been scammed. I've come across quite a few con artists and shady people in my time and I'm not afraid to say who they are.....that's why I started this blog. I'm so tired of seeing people get scammed over and over by sleazy people, and I know I can't be the only one. So for anyone out there who's been scammed, you're not alone. Feel free to share your story. Please provide as much info. on the person or company as possible so that people know how to spot them....I'll even change your name if you don't want people to know who you are, but please share your story so that other people can find out about these people and know to avoid them.
